Legislative Co-operation With Vietnam
May 2007 | Risk SummaryVietnam and Laos have agreed to strengthen co-operation between the two countries' legislative bodies. Vietnam's National Assembly and Laos' Thongsing Thammavong are to organise study tours to exchange experiences and hold meetings and seminars on topics of particular interests. The work will be co-ordinated with the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Organisation but will also build on the special relationship the two countries enjoy. The agreement on legislative co-operation was reached after Nguyen Phu Trong, chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly, visited Lao President Choummaly Sayasone and Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh at the end of April.
