April 2007 | Ratings UpdateIn April, Asia's arms race escalated in April after India test-fired a nuclear-capable ballistic missile with the range to reach Beijing and Shanghai. India says the missile has a range of 3,500km, which means it would also theoretically be able of carrying out a nuclear strike on the Middle East. According to additional reports, India can extend the range even beyond this. An announcement was made by the Indian government's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), which said that it had the technology to build inter-continental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) with a range of 5,500km.
