January 2007 | Risk SummarySingapore's Ambassador to Thailand, Mr Peter Chan, met the Permanent Secretary of Thailand's Foreign Ministry Krit Garnjana-Goonchorn in Bangkok, in an effort to mollify the Thai government's growing concern over the visit of former-prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra to the city-state. Thailand decided to suspend indefinitely all high level meetings with Singapore, including its civil service exchange programme, the planned summit later this year, and a ministerial dialogue in February, even though Mr. Chan reasoned that the Singapore government regarded Thaksin's visit as a private one.
