President Roh's Sinking Popularity

Public support for President Roh Moo-hyun has fallen to a new low of 11%, according to a poll carried out by the Korean Society Opinion Institute, published on November 17. Four out of five respondents said that Roh's government had made mistakes in policy, such as being unable to cool an overheating real estate market or to deal effectively with Pyongyang, with security concerns rising after the recent nuclear test. Following the heavy defeat of his ruling Uri party in local elections in May 2006, Roh will remain a lame duck president for the remainder of his term, until February
