Democratic Movement Calls For Challenger
October 2006 | Ratings UpdateAlan Leong, front-runner of Hong Kong's democratic movement, has said that Beijing should let opposition candidates challenge incumbent Donald Tsang in next March's chief executive elections. Leong has argued that, while this will not pose a threat to Beijing (which has ruled out the introduction of universal suffrage ahead of the vote), it would force Tsang to clearly set out his policy objectives, rather than simply secure another term with no debate.
