Laos: Industry Superseding Agriculture
September 2006 | Economic AnalysisBMI View: The country's medium and long-term growth outlook is positive, but increasingly reliant on the export of commodities and hydropower. While we feel that harnessing Laos' ample hydro resources is a wise short and longer term strategy, the volatile nature of key commodity prices, such as gold and copper, Laos' primary minerals, could pose intermittent economic difficulties. However, on the whole, the picture is steadily improving.
