Ongoing Challenges For FTA
August 2006 | Ratings UpdateSouth Korea may drop attempts to include products made in the inter-Korean Kaesong industrial park (situated in North Korea), after a senior US official ruled out the possibility of a free trade agreement otherwise. Deputy Finance Minister Chin Dong-soo said the issue might have an 'unfavourable' impact on South Korea, and suggested resolving it through 'political or other means'. According to some government officials, Seoul may instead link the matter to the resumption of six-nation talks on North Korea's nuclear programme, although an official in the Foreign Affairs and Trade Ministry, the body in charge of the negotiations, has said
