Since race riots in 1969 killed around 200 people, Malaysia has tried to maintain peace between its different cultures and religious groups, with the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition comprising fourteen parties of various racial groups. Iraq is aiming to get different factions within its own country working together, and Malaysia's experience of multi-race power-sharing, alongside national unity and stability, may be a useful template.
