The forthcoming inaugural East Asian Summit (EAS) in December in Kuala Lumpur, could initiate marked developments in regional governance, cohesion and trade relations. The meeting will bring the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) together with China, Japan, India, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand, in what could represent a boost for Malaysia's strategic position in the region at the centre of an East Asian Community (EAC).
