We expect Singapore's trade-dependent economy to slow to 3.8% after impressive 8.4% expansion in 2004 amid a downturn in global demand. Following the strong growth in the second quarter though, and amid the continuing threat from oil prices, we expect the Monetary Authority of Singapore to maintain its current tightening policy in October, allowing gradual appreciation of the Singapore dollar.
