April 2005 | Risk SummarySingapore has officially ended military operations in Iraq, as its biggest navy warship returned from the Gulf. However, it has said it remains committed to restoring peace and stability in the country. The city-state backed the US-led invasion of Iraq and has already conducted four support missions in the region since October 2003, as well as sending a police squad to Jordan earlier this year to train Iraqi police. While the withdrawal will allow the island to focus resources on regional operational needs, with Jemaah Islamiah militants reportedly regrouping, as a staunch US ally, Singapore remains a target for attacks.
