An investigation into corruption in the Philippine armed forces is fuelling rumours of a coup plot. Senator Rodolfo Biazon, a former army chief of staff, warned that three retired generals were plotting to oust President Gloria Arroyo from office following news that the army's former finance comptroller would face a court martial on fraud charges. Arroyo must proceed carefully as she looks to fight corruption, but rumours of a coup plot are mostly exaggerated, in BMI's view.
