Corruption Remains A Challenge
July 2006 | Ratings UpdateAccording to local media reports, the head of Vietnam's police investigation unit has been relieved from his post amid allegations that he was involved in a corruption scandal at a big-budget road building unit, which has dogged the ruling Communist Party. Allegations of bribery and gambling in the unit within the transport ministry led to the resignation of Transport Minister Dao Dinh Binh in April, who has yet to be replaced. Fighting corruption remains a key challenge for the government, as it seeks to reassure its disillusioned citizens and attract foreign investors.
