More Turbulence To Come

While the setting of October 15 as the date for new elections is encouraging, much needs to be done to enable the re-run to take place on the approved date. The most immediate issue is the future of the Election Commission. The three remaining commissioners, accused of favouring Premier Thaksin Shinawatra's Thai Rak Thai (TRT) party in April's snap election, deny any wrongdoing and are refusing to step down. Having pledged to contest the poll, the opposition is almost certain to boycott the October election if the commissioners are still in place. Furthermore, the TRT has been accused of bankrolling
