At Odds With Malaysia

Thailand's diplomatic relationship with neighbouring Malaysia will continue to be influenced heavily by the two countries' ability, or lack of it, to come to an agreement on how to deal with violent conflict along their shared border where Islamic separatists in Thailand's deep south, backed reportedly by fellow Muslims in Malaysia, are waging a campaign of bombings and terror. Thailand will continue to favour a tough approach based on military engagement. Malaysia, meanwhile, will insist on a softer touch. At the moment there does seem to be a modicum of cooperation between the two nations in tackling the violence. But
