November 2005 | Risk SummaryThe job approval rating of Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has dropped 10 percentage points to 53% in the wake of a controversial decision to increase domestic fuel prices, according to recent opinion polls. The survey is the first time that the president has had a job approval rating of below 60%, and follows a job approval rating of 63% before the fuel subsidy cuts went ahead. Record high oil prices forced Yudhoyono to boost heavily subsidized prices for gasoline to ease pressure on the budget and the rupiah currency.
