President Gloria Arroyo has rejected opposition calls for a snap election in 2007. Speaking on October 25, Igancio Bunye, Arroyo's spokesperson, said: 'The snap polls will never happen.' Opposition leaders, plus former members of the cabinet, are calling on the president to resign amid claims that she cheated her way back to office in the May 2004 election. Arroyo does, however, seem more secure now than she did at the height of the crisis in the summer.
