September 2005 | Risk SummarySuspected Islamic militants launched three separate attacks in late August in southern Thailand, killing three people, in the latest violence to hit the area. Violence in three of Thailand's largely Muslim southern provinces - Yala, Pattani, and Narathiwat, have claimed more than 900 lives since the attacks began in January last year. It is feared the increasing attacks could mark the revival of a long-dormant Muslim separatist movement in the region. Amid the continuing violence, over 100 Muslims have already abandoned their homes in the region to seek refuge in Malaysia.
