May 2005 | Risk SummaryLaos's deputy prime minister, Asang Laoly, has reviewed the work of the party and government institutions responsible for tackling corruption. By the government's own admission, more needs to be done if corruption is to be brought under control. Nevertheless, corruption is less of a problem than in neighbouring Cambodia and the threat to the ruling Lao People's Revolutionary Party from this source is currently manageable. Anti-corruption legislation was on the agenda of the National Assembly session in April/May. Passage of the legislation is important as a first step towards tackling
