Malaysia's economy will expand by 6.9% this year amid strong export growth, but will slow to 5.3% next year. A downturn in the global electronic cycle will weigh down on exports, while slower industrial production, which will rise 9.5% in 2005 compared with this year's 12.6%, underlines concerns that the economy is cooling. The large government debt burden will exacerbate the situation and presents further risks going forward.
