BMI forecasts growth of 7.4% for Vietnam in 2004 fuelled by increasing trade and foreign investment. Unlike most other countries in Asia, Vietnam is a net exporter of oil, which means it should benefit from the recent strong oil price, although it would still be vulnerable to any global slowdown caused by high oil prices.
