June 2004 | Risk SummaryBurmese leader Khin Nyunt has completed his first official visit to Thailand since becoming prime minister in 2003. During the visit, Khin Nyunt met with his Thai counterpart, Thaksin Shinawatra. Prime Minister Thaksin appealed to Nyunt for assistance in reducing drug trafficking from Burma to Thailand, and also pressed the leader on Aung San Suu Kyi, the pro-democracy opposition leader, who remains under house arrest, despite international criticism of her arrest. Burma has been hit hard by the introduction of sanction's last year, and is keen for Thailand - its third largest foreign investor - to continue investing in
