April 2004 | Risk SummaryA bomb exploded in the tourist town on Sungai Kolok in late March, wounding 30 people in the first instance of violence in southern Thailand spreading to tourist areas. Sungai Kolok is popular with Malaysians crossing over the border to take advantage of the town's brothels and bars. Violence began in southern Thailand at the start of the year, and has lead to the death of over 50 people.
