February 2006 | Macroeconomic ForecastsWe expect Bangladesh's economy to accelerate slightly to 5.9% in fiscal year (FY) 2005 (ending June 2006), from 5.4% in FY04. The economy has recovered from domestic and external shocks such as last year's floods and higher oil prices; and is now being supported by a bumper harvest, stable industrial growth and a steady increase in remittances, growth should receive a boost this year. However, political volatility and growing Islamist activities remain downside risks. The Governor of the central bank forecasts growth at 6.3-6.8% in FY05
