India and Bangladesh have agreed to defuse tension on their volatile border, by not undertaking any further construction near the frontier. Indian troops opened fire on Bangladeshi workers in mid-August to stop them building a river embankment close to the border, in the latest of a series of border skirmishes souring relations. However, the agreement to resolve the dispute could presage a warming of ties, especially coming alongside New Delhi's offer to help Dhaka hunt for Islamist terrorists who set off hundreds of bombs across the country.
