June 2005 | Political Risk AnalysisWhen India's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was voted out of office in last year's general election, the Hindu nationalist party was widely expected to pursue a much more hawkish line on peace with Pakistan than it had done in government. But those concerns have proved to be ill founded. Relations between South Asia's two nuclear-armed neighbours are warmer today than they have been for years; warmer, perhaps, than at any time since the two countries were 'partitioned' on independence from Britain in 1947.
