June 2005 | Risk Summary

Police in Karachi have arrested two suspected Sunni militants following the attack on the city's Madinatul Ilm mosque on May 30 in which five people were killed. According to police, the pair belong to the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, an outlawed militant group blamed for a series of attacks across Pakistan. More than 170 people have been killed in sectarian violence between the Sunni majority and minority Shi'ites during the past year alone. Further violence is likely, BMI believes. The two suspects reportedly told their captors that 20 suicide bombers are still at large in Karachi, Pakistan's commercial capital.
