October 2004 | Risk SummaryBangladesh's opposition Awami League plans to step up a campaign to remove the Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's government after the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan ends in mid-November. Opposition leader Sheikh Hasina, who escaped a recent grenade attack on a rally of her Awami League party that killed 20 people and wounded 150, has called for a series of national strikes, starting on October 10. While the campaign is unlikely to drive Zia from power, the planned strikes will further disrupt the flood-ravaged state which is already facing an uneasy relationship with neighbour India on allegations of harbouring
