Musharraf To Remain Army Chief

Pakistan's president, General Pervez Musharraf, has given the clearest sign yet that he plans to remain head of the armed forces next year. Musharraf, who took power in a bloodless coup in October 1999, told local television that most people wanted him to hold onto the post in 2005. Under a deal with the opposition Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal, a six-party Islamic Alliance, Musharraf had said he would resign as army chief by December 2004.
