North Korea on June 12 warned that it might shoot down US spy planes, after claiming that an RC-135 reconnaissance aircraft had overflown its territorial waters three times early in the month. Pyongyang invoked a 1969 incident in which it shot down an American aircraft with the loss of 31 lives. Meanwhile, the US has rejected an invitation to visit Pyongyang issued to nuclear negotiator Christopher Hill, insisting that any talks must be held within the 'six party' framework.
