North Korea's economy remains in a desperate state, despite the tentative implementation of various market reforms. While gradual improvements in agricultural production have eased food shortages, decades of central planning have left the country's industrial base in a fragile state, especially with large-scale military spending eating up resources. Continued isolation from the international community and high inflation will remain further drags on North Korea's ambitious efforts to grow by more than 10%
