New Prime Minister
February 2006 | Ratings UpdateTaiwanese President Chen Shui-bian has appointed his former chief of staff and co-founder of the ruling DPP party Su Tseng-chang to replace Frank Hsieh, who resigned after less than one year as prime minister. Frank resigned in mid-January to take responsibility for the party's poor performance in recent local government elections, and because of disagreements with the president over the party's policy towards China. Su is now the favourite to be the DPP's candidate in the 2008 presidential election.
