January 2006 | Ratings UpdatePresident Roh Moo-hyun has named a radical Uri Party lawmaker as the new health and welfare minister, in a move that risks splitting the ruling party. Mainstream politicians from the party have challenged the appointment of Rhyu Si-min to the cabinet, concerned at his provocative and aggressive rhetoric. Roh’s decision to press ahead with the nomination, despite some party concern about Ryhu’s negative impact on nation-wide local elections in May, could increase the in-fighting between pro-Roh and anti-Roh
