Chinese President Hu Jintao completed a three-day visit to North Korea in late October, in a bid to underline China's importance in persuading North Korea to dismantle its nuclear weapons in the run-up to the next round of six-party talks which are due to take place in November. China has been coming under strong pressure from the US to use its position as North Korea's closest ally and main aid provider to keep it in negotiations. The main challenge for the next round of talks is implementing a landmark joint statement which was agreed in the last session in September.
