Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao recently concluded a high-profile visit to a number of EU countries, including Germany, Britain and Ireland. The purpose of the visit was to push European countries into dropping their arms embargo imposed on China after the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre, and to encourage the EU to grant China 'market economy status' at the World Trade Organisation (WTO). The Chinese premier also held discussion over trade, amid threats by the EU to refer a dispute with China over coke export quotas to the WTO.
