Chen Regains Presidency

Chen Shui-bian has been re-elected president by just 30,000 votes in highly controversial elections. BMI View: Opinion polls before the election suggested Chen was likely to lose. He appears to have benefited from a sympathy vote after a failed assassination attempt on him and his deputy the day before polling.
