March 2004 | Risk SummaryThe Chinese foreign ministry has warned the US government against involving itself in the political future of Hong Kong. The caution came after a senior US State Department official warned that US-China relations would suffer if democracy and freedom in Hong Kong deteriorate. The State Department made the statement after the Hong Kong pro-democracy politician, Martin Lee, testifying before the Senate foreign relations committee, warned that there was too much intervention in the internal affairs of Hong Kong.
