South Korean politics, rather than economics, is perhaps the biggest source of risk for any potential investor in the country at present. Bribery allegations continue to ensnare both the leadership and the opposition. In February, South Korean prosecutors questioned former military ruler Chun Doo-hwan after his son, Chun Jae-yong, was arrested for tax evasion. President Roh Moo-hyun came to office last year promising to clean up the shady ties between government and big business. But his efforts have singularly failed. Success remains a long shot.
