Up to 78 Golkar Party branches on June 24 formally declared Yogyakarta Governor Sultan Hamengkubuwono X as its vice president candidate for the 2014 general elections. Hamengkubuwono will pair with party's Chairman Aburizal Bakrie, who is running for the presidency. It is the first time the party has officially suggested a candidate to pair with the party's chairman for presidential elections, according to the party's central executive board chief, Priyo Budi Santoso. However, other candidates would also be considered by the central executive board. The final decision is expected to be made during the national meeting of the party in end-June.
