May 2012 | Ratings UpdateSingapore's ruling People's Action Party witnessed a defeat in the opposition-controlled Hougang district in a by-election held on May 26. The ruling party candidate Desmond Choo lost to Workers' Party candidate Png Eng Huat, who won 62.1% of valid votes on a seat left vacant after the Workers' Party expelled Yaw Shin Leong in February due to indiscretions in his private life. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has pointed towards adopting more measures in order to regain support after the ruling party registered its worst result in 2011.
