The ongoing disinflation should alleviate some of the economic stresses that the country as a whole has recently felt. Considering the country's low-income status, and that 71% of the population lives in rural areas where the struggle against inflation has persisted much longer, inflation regularly becomes a highly-politicised issue, which the political opposition has certainly taken advantage of in recent years. Indeed, the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party has embarked on numerous hartals (i.e. general strikes), regularly blaming the government's mismanagement with regards to inflation. Moving forward, social and political unrest on the back of inflationary anxieties should increasingly become less of a concern.
