Moving forward, the trend looks set to continue, even as multiple government related agencies publish studies on the necessity of continued immigration in order to maintain modest population growth and stave off a demographic disaster. According to a study recently published by the National Population and Talent Division, the city-state's old age dependency ratio could plummet from its current 6.3 to an extremely low 2.1 by 2030 with zero immigration, and for this reason the government will not close Singapore off to immigrants entirely.
