March 2012 | Ratings UpdatePhilippine President Benigno Aquino III has stated that he does not yet require emergency powers in order to alleviate the evolving power shortage in Mindanao. However, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, an ally of the president, has filed a bill seeking to grant Aquino the necessary powers, indicating that the government may move ahead with the necessary steps to alleviate the growing crisis. The largest power plant on the island is the Agus 6 hydropower plant, which not only is nearly 30 years past its suggested life expectancy, but is also cyclically hampered by the country's dry season, which sends water levels lower and thus hampers the plant's productive capacity.
