On March 7, the ruling Awami League (AL) is expected to hold its largest mass rally in Dhaka, just a few days before the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) holds its grand rally on March 12. Aside from the country's ongoing economic woes, tensions between the two main political parties remain heated as the BNP maintains its demand for the reinstitution of the caretaker government system, which was abolished by the passing of the 15th Amendment in June 2011. As the country slowly gears up for general elections in 2013, we expect to see more heated political confrontation between the two main parties.
