In what is widely seen as an attempt to counter growing resistance from the political opposition, the Pheu Thai Party (PTP) has decided to soften its stance on demanding for constitutional amendement. Instead, the PTP will allow pressure groups, particularly the 'Red Shirts', to spearhead new efforts to amend the constitution. According to 'Red Shirt' leader Payap Panket, the group is gathering signatures to push for its constitutional amendment bill to be submitted to parliament. He added that many 'Red Shirt' supporters nationwide are ready to support the drive. We caution that tensions could escalate over the coming months.
