The Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) has expressed its anxiety over the recent acceleration of non-food inflation, suggesting that the rise could potentially trigger public unrest, fostering political instability. The chamber stated that the rise of non-food inflation was severely affecting the living conditions of low- to middle-income people. Furthermore, it recommended that the government prioritise the ongoing inflation problem before it runs out of control. The persistence of high inflation would certainly affect the ruling Awami League's political prospects in the next elections scheduled to be held in 2013.
