India was earlier dependent on China when it comes to making investments in Myanmar, where China has two-thirds of its investments and nearly 50% of its bilateral trade. However, the situation takes a turn as India aggressively works towards balancing China's influence in Asia. Myanmar President Thein Sein arrived in India on October 14 for a three-day official visit along with a huge delegation of ministers. India recently announced that it will provide financial assistance worth US$500mn to facilitate the development of projects in Myanmar.
