Macroeconomic Forecast Bangladesh

October 2011 | Macroeconomic Forecasts

In line with our expectations, Bangladesh's current account surplus has started out the current fiscal year promisingly. The latest data showed a cumulative surplus of US$1,194mn through the first two months of FY2011/12 (July-June), a significant improvement from the US$625mn surplus recorded during the same period in the previous fiscal year. The key drivers of this promising start have been a narrowing of the goods trade deficit and improving remittance inflows. For FY2011/12, we are projecting an end-year surplus of US$1.2bn, up slightly from the collapse which saw last fiscal year's surplus drop to US$1.0bn from US$3.7bn in FY2009/10.
