September 2011 | Political Risk AnalysisNorth Korea is preparing to designate Kim Jong Il's son Kim Jong Un as his successor possibly as early as April 2012. We believe that Jong Un may well succeed his father but most probably as a figurehead for a military-dominated collective leadership, which would be subject to power struggles. A coup is also a realistic possibility once Kim Jong Il eventually dies.
