June 2011 | Risk SummaryMyanmarese government troops clashed with two battalions of Shan State Army-North on August 13, resulting in the death of one government soldier while eight others were injured. The six-hour gun battle occurred near Wan Phui Village, seven miles north east of Kyethi Township in Shan State. Six Shan soldiers were reportedly wounded in the fight. On August 11, the government troops fired heavy weapons into Wansant Village in Mong Yai, which is believed to house people associated with Shan armed groups in the area. The attack caused injury to three primary students and six adults.
